soul sis update/ last ny party/ l.a. here I come

Hi y'all. Here's a quickie update.

I hope everyone is well. Thanks to everyone who has checked in or let me know how you are doing. Internet access is very limited these days, so please forgive me if I have not replied yet. You are in my thoughts and I hope to see you or chat with you soon.

So here's what's up. I am still in New York until the weekend. I am not going to D.C. I am actually going to Los Angeles this Saturday. How long or short I'll be there, I don't know, but I do plan to return to New Orleans as soon as it's possible for me. Hopefully it won't be later than New Year's Eve. Despite enjoying New York, dancing at bars to great DJs like the legendary Pete Rock and buying more records than I evacuated with, I am ready to move on. It's getting too damn cold up here. L.A. is showing me mad love, and I haven't even landed there yet. But more info on that later.

If you're in New York or know someone in NY, please send them this info. It should be big fun - and it's my farewell NY party for real:

Party w/Me on Monday!

Thanks to ALL the NY/NO crew that represented HARD at my first ever right on party situation in NY a couple weeks ago. We turned that party out until 4am and even then didn't want to stop. I also had a great time spinning at a special Katrina benefit set up by some Columbia U students last night. I partied with P-Funk on Friday and went record shopping with old school hip hop pioneer Grandmaster Caz yesterday. There are even more Soul Sister parties in the works. With all of this energy, I may never return to New Orleans. NOT!! New Orleans is is my home and y'all are my crew and I can't wait to return to rebuild our home the way it SHOULD be.

But until then, here's some news for the many New Orleanians in New York. Just announced. Please help spread the word to all of you friends who might enjoy.

Greetings from NY & DC!

Well, hello there!

I'm writing from a cozy little cybercafe in DC which, I swear, if I was forced to leave New Orleans forever, I would make DC my home. It reminds me of New Orleans so much, and it's very easy to navigate. I love it here.

NY is cool too, but it's taken be some time to get used to the subways and rushed pace. Plus, there are people, people, people everywhere. And it's sooooo big. But everyone is friendly if you want them to be - I just have to ask a dumb tourist question or tell them I'm from New Orleans, and they're my best friend.

Speaking of NY, I want to thank everyone who made my DC night in NY at Belly such a HUGE success. Yes, it was small and, yes, I know y'all wanted to dance, but I'm just grateful to everyone who made it happen at the last minute. It was so special and when I get back to St. James, LA, I'll tell those of you who weren't there just what you missed.

Tonight in DC I'm going to the go-go (yes!) and then I have a full plate of activity when I get back to NY - Kurtis Blow's Harlem Hip Hop Church, Hip Hop NY Bus Tour, P-Funk show at the Apollo, dancing to Cut Chemist at APT, and more record browsing/shopping and visiting with displaced and new friends. And eating - lots of that. And even more walking. #@!%$!!!

See y'all when I get back to Louisiana in about a week. Don't forget, my number is 504-491-6626. Call me - email access for me is limited these days, y'all. Out.

See you in NY, y'all!

Well, in a few hours I'll be on a plane headed to New York and headed to normalcy. After 3 weeks of emotional and physical hell, I am looking forward to a little of that.

I hope this doesn't sound selfish, but once I touch down in NYC I'm going to party like it's 1999!

I don't have time to type much on this post, and am not sure how much posting I'll be doing while I'm up there (I'll try to as much as I can), but I want to thank all of you, and you know who you are, for helping me to make this therapeutic trip the best! The gig at Belly is going to be off the hook, and I have my sights set on a number of things to take my mind off of Katrina/Rita like visiting Kurtis Blow's Harlem Hip Hop Church, trying to attend a taping of Conan O Brien, going to this in DC, applying for Red Cross (yes, still gotta do that) and seeing my friends!

much love and, if you're in NY, see you on Friday @ Belly!
